High on Mountain Biking | the trail adventures of a mountain biker

Hidden Valley onto Moab Rim October 2011

The Hidden Valley onto Moab Rim is one of my Moab favorites. This trail offers fantastic scenery, a very remote feeling without being remote ( if anything goes wrong, it's no more than a 1.5 hour walk to civilization). The Hidden Valley onto Moab Rim trail offers everything the big trails offer, such as Porcupine. The trail can be looped, or as an out and back. This trail offers the longest and steepest slickrock downhill section, almost a mile of solid mental 22 percent … [Read more...]

The 15 Best Mountain Biking Trails in the USA

C'mon, let's be honest asking someone what the best trails are, is like asking someone what their favorite movie is.. everyone is gonna have their own favorites. But, believe it or not it is by far the most asked question I get... AND it's the most used search engine term used by people landing on my various sites " The 10 best mtb trails in the USA" so I decided to put my top 10 together, but it turned out to be VERY difficult, and it quickly became My Top 15 Mountain Biking Trails in the … [Read more...]

Henry W Coe State Park Mountain Biking

Henry Who?? ... Yep, that was my first response when I knew I was gonna ride in this area.. Now let's be honest how many people have heard of the Henry W. Coe State Park in California?  In the Henry W. Coe State Park brochure they call it " A Mecca for Mountain Bikers".. Yeah sure I thought to myself, if I had a dollar for every park that said that, I would be rich. But anyway, I was here for a few weeks and decided for myself if this really was a "Mecca for Mountain Bikers" or just another false … [Read more...]

North Yuba River Trail Downieville

Due to the very high amount of snow that was dumped on the range during the previous Winter and early Spring, most of the trails I had planned to shred were still snowed in, however the North Yuba River Trail was one of the few trails that were accessible. The North Yuba Trail is a highly rated +15 miles sweet singletrack that follows the Yuba River from Downieville to the Indian Valley Campground. So, did this trail excite me as much as the Downieville classic?     Trail … [Read more...]

Downieville Classic

For years now I have been hearing lots of fantastic stories about the Downieville Trails. I have been to a lot of fantastic mtb destinations, and was really curious if Downieville would come close to some of my all time favorites, or … [Read more...]

Hurkey Creek and May Valley Trails Epic

My first attempt to ride the "24 hour loop" went a bit pear shaped, and I missed the turn off to Rage through the Sage and Tunnel of Love.  While getting my steed fixed up, I got a lot of useful trail intel from the shop owner. The trails he marked for me on a very basic map were some local secrets, and there is no way I would have been able to ride them without this inside intel. The good thing was, I managed to map a loop that included the Rage through the Sage and Tunnel of Love.. I … [Read more...]

Hurkey Creek Trails near Idyllwild

The Idyllwild Trails in California did their best to keep me away. I had first planned to come here about 5 weeks ago, and on the actual day I left Los Angeles to head to Idyllwild 4 feet of snow was dropped, and I got a phone call from a ranger saying that I would need chains to get to Idyllwild.. I put everything on hold, and headed South instead. When I did finally make it to Idyllwild,  both my bikes were in dire need of a bike doctor, luckily for me The Hub Cyclery in Iydllewild did a … [Read more...]
